The region of La Cruz, still little explored by traditional guides and tourist circuits, harbors many hidden treasures we invite you to discover.

Already populated in 500 B.C. by peoples from the Valley of Mexico, and later by the Chorotega people, the region has cultural ties with the north of Central America and, despite its incorporation into Costa Rica in 1824, has preserved its ethnic, artistic, and culinary roots. Tamales, pinoles, and guacales all bear witness to this vibrant living tradition.

From a geographical point of view, the region of La Cruz offers countless possibilities for nature lovers.

The coastal area, including Bahía Salinas, Cuajiniquil, and the Gulf of Santa Elena, as well as the famous Santa Rosa National Park — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — provides many nesting and hatching sites for leatherback, olive ridley, and hawksbill turtles, a refuge for brown pelicans, and the chance to spot whales in season.

The deserted, magnificently preserved beaches and mangroves allow you to immerse yourself in the unique atmosphere of this tropical dry forest, the last vestige of the vegetation that once covered the entire area.

Inland, the dry plains quickly give way to green hills surrounding the Orosí Volcano, the first elevation of the Guanacaste mountain range. The area around Los Andes, where we are located, has a unique humid jungle microclimate, lush and ever-green, thanks to the cool breeze from Lake Nicaragua.

These variations in climate and altitude — between coast, pasture, and forest, plain and mountain — make it a privileged place for observing all kinds of birds, insects, and a contrasting, diverse flora.
