Around the Lodge
Agroforestry Garden Tour
Discover Tierra Madre through its edible and agroforestry gardens.

During this relaxed walk, we explore a wide variety of tropical fruit trees, edible plants, medicinal and useful species, while tasting seasonal fruits, flowers and other products directly from the garden whenever available.
The tour introduces the principles behind our regenerative approach: combining food production, biodiversity, soil regeneration and agroforestry in living systems that evolve over time.
It is also an opportunity to hear the story of Tierra Madre, the lessons learned over the years and the way our gardens continue to change with the land.
Guided Nature Hike
Walk through the different landscapes of Tierra Madre and discover how the land has changed through years of regeneration and reforestation.
Approx. 3 hours / Half day | Difficulty: 2/3
The hike moves through restored forest and other natural areas, offering a close look at tropical biodiversity and the processes that shape a recovering ecosystem.
Along the way, we read the landscape together: forest succession, water, wildlife habitat, regeneration and the relationship between productive areas and conservation.
Wildlife sightings vary naturally, but the forest offers many opportunities to observe birds, mammals, insects and other species while experiencing the property beyond the gardens.
River & Hot Springs Experience
A more adventurous walk from Tierra Madre through a biological corridor and humid forest toward the Río Sábalo.

The approximately 5 km route can be muddy and demanding, especially during the rainy season, and is designed for guests who enjoy a more physical nature experience.
At the river, natural hot springs provide a rewarding place to relax and swim surrounded by forest. The area is rich in wildlife, and there is a possibility of encountering species such as howler monkeys along the way. Conditions vary with the season, making each visit a different experience.
Local Cooking Workshop
Join us in the kitchen for a practical introduction to local food and the simple pleasure of preparing something together.

Depending on the season, available ingredients and the interests of the group, the workshop may include traditional tortillas, tamales, homemade bread, coconut-based sweets or other local recipes.
Rather than a fixed cooking class, this is a hands-on experience built around what is available and what we are cooking at Tierra Madre that day. It is an informal way to discover local ingredients, techniques and food traditions while sharing the preparation and, of course, the result.
Outside the Lodge
The Waterfall Experience
A short rural drive from Tierra Madre brings us to one of the area's hidden waterfalls.

From there, we continue on foot to reach the falls and their natural pools, with beautiful views of the surrounding landscape and the Orosí volcanic area along the way.
There is time to enjoy the site, swim in the natural pools and experience a quiet corner of northern Guanacaste away from the main tourist routes. Access conditions can vary with the season.
Bahía Salinas Beach & Mangrove Kayak Experience
Explore Bahía Salinas and the coastal landscapes around La Cruz.

Combining time at the beach with a kayak experience through the mangrove environment. The bay is an important area for both resident and migratory birds, including the brown pelicans that are characteristic of this coastline.
The day also offers a glimpse into the life of local fishing communities and the quieter side of northern Guanacaste's Pacific coast. It is a relaxed nature experience focused on the bay, its birds, mangroves, beaches and local coastal culture.
Santa Rosa National Park Experience
Spend a day inside Santa Rosa National Park, one of Costa Rica's most important protected areas and a remarkable meeting point of nature and history.

We explore the park's tropical dry forest and its diverse ecosystems while looking for birds and other wildlife and learning about the ecology of this exceptional landscape.
The experience also includes the historical and cultural dimension of Santa Rosa, including La Casona and the events that made this site an important part of Costa Rican history.
The combination of conservation, wildlife, landscape and national heritage makes Santa Rosa much more than a conventional nature excursion.
